JETS seek Head Age Group Coach
The Joliet Jets Y Swim Team is seeking a part-time Head Age Group Coach to begin in September 2009. The JETS are a year-round YMCA/USA-S club ranging from 115-135 swimmers, ages 6-18, and have been part of the Joliet community for nearly 80 years. The team has a learn-to-swim program (YMCA lessons) and a pre-competitive program that feeds towards the swim team, a college group and masters team, and also holds a summer water polo clinic. The team has a very supportive parent group that hosts 4-5 meets per year. JETS coaches have access to underwater video equipment to incorporate video analysis, water polo equipment to incorporate water polo into practices, and a number of other training tools…creativity is a must!

Responsibilities: The Head Age Group Coach is an employee of the Joliet YMCA and reports directly to the Head Coach. This position is primarily responsible for writing and running the workouts for the intermediate levels on the team while assisting with the overall direction and seasonal planning of the beginning levels, and will also have an involvement with the advanced levels to ensure fluid transitioning. The Head Age Group Coach is expected to prepare kids ages 9-14 to compete at the YMCA State, Age Group State, and Zone meets. Practices for these groups are held primarily at the Smith Family YMCA, at least 4 days per week. The Head Age Group Coach is also expected to attend most swim meets.

Qualifications/Characteristics: Candidates should be ASCA Level 2 or higher, have at least 4 years of coaching experience, and hold current certification in Lifeguarding/Coaches Safety Training, First Aid and CPR before the first day of employment. Candidates should have a strong passion for working with young swimmers on stroke development while also instilling leadership qualities and the values of the YMCA. The ideal candidate will share our team philosophy, create great working relationships with the other coaches, and will wish to remain stable in this position for a number of years. Candidates should be organized and dependable, creative and enthusiastic throughout practice, and positive and patient throughout the season.

Compensation/Benefits: Wage will be dependent upon level of education, training and experience. Benefits include yearly membership to ASCA, all expenses paid trip to ASCA World Clinic each year, other trainings as seen fit, and all the benefits of being a YMCA employee, including full membership and other opportunities.

Interested applicants should send a resume and references to Dave Hedden at dhedden@jolietymca.org, or call 815-726-3939 x412 for more information. Visit www.jetsyswimteam.org and www.jolietymca.org to find out more about our team and our YMCA.
