"What the superior man seeks is in
himself; what the small man seeks is in others" - Confucius
Today, we woke up, ate breakfast and
headed to the pool as usual. We found an even comfier spot
to sit by a giant rolled up blanket. Ben was the only one
with an event, 50 butterfly. All three boys warmed up and
we played some more cards and Mancala. Ben's event was
next to last in the event order.
Ben's 50 Fly was a bit off; he added
about a half second, which he was disappointed with. We
were anticipating a good swim, as his butterfly was looking very
good at practice. Sometimes that happens, which is a
frustrating aspect of the sport. Many times, you can
feel completely crummy before a meet but still pop off a great
race. But there can be some other times when you can feel
good and look good at practice leading up to a meet, but then
something just isn't right with the swim. In either case,
it's important to keep a good attitude. In the first case,
you need to stay positive that even though you don't feel good,
you're still capable of racing good (coaches tell stories of
this happening all the time). In the second case, and
Ben's case, you have to stay positive that you can fix what you
need in order to do better in the future. Ben was
disappointed, but took it well with a good attitude.
Keegan had to leave today as his
parents had to be back for work. His event was Tuesday,
but he was able to stay a couple extra days to cheer on the
others and enjoy the meet a little longer. We took some
team pictures after prelims. |
